Wendee Goles

Born in Phoenix, AZ

Wendee Goles began painting at the age of 14. After years of watching her mother and aunt create works of art in many different mediums, her own passion for art became clear to her. At the age of 19, she packed up her car and drove to Chicago, waiting tables while she continued to paint canvasses, guitars, murals and drawing portraits for her customers and sewing custom scarves.

She attended the Art Institute of Chicago and spent much of that time studying under Karl Wirsum. His wisdom inspired her to look past the surface and delve deeper into her own passion.

She has found that while the portrait has an obvious personal identity, it can also have endless connections to the world around and beyond the subject. Her work is heavy impasto solely applied vigorously and effectively with the palette knife. The use of textures and strokes registers the ruts and swells on not only her subject but also, by analogy, on the road leading through the life experiences she exposes.

She currently lives in Villa Park, IL with her husband Steve and her two children Ryley and Franky.
